From Persistent Pain to Power - Michael’s Story
Persistent pain can take a massive toll on our life - from restricting our movement, to keeping us away from activities that bring us joy, and even sapping our confidence.
Often times it is the the fear of exacerbating an existing injury, or re-awakening an old one, that can hinder our journey to recovery even further. Through restricting movement, we are often doing ourselves more harm than good!
Luckily, if you've been struggling with persistent pain, there is a simple solution you may not have tried - and it's one of the most effective things we can do for our longterm health.
That's right - exercise is one of the most impactful methods of pain management
Take Michael, for example.
Michael came to us originally as he had been suffering with debilitating nerve pain running down his leg for over 3 years.
He was exhausted, being woken up every night by the pain, and was frustrated by the way his pain had taken him away from all the activities had previously loved.
He had thrown everything at it over the years – MRI’s, X-rays, CT guided injections, neurological testing, pilates, yoga, boxing – and yet he was no closer to being pain free.
In fact, his pain was getting worse, to the point of power loss going up stairs, and waking up some days barely able to walk.
Michael's goals were simple to start - resolve the pain so he could finally sleep (it was impacting him in every aspect of life, as you can imagine), and he wanted to resolve what he described as “old man back”.
But soon enough his goals would grow profoundly!
Working with coaches David and Jackson, the plan started simple: - Stabilise minor imbalances that had been caused over years of pain - Desensitise his nervous system to aggravating loads and positions - Build a robust and resilient skeletal system to handle anything life throws at him by mastering key compound lifts and their variations (Squat, Bench, Deadlifts, Chin-ups) and supplement with a wide range of unilateral and loaded carry patterns.
Within 3 months Michael's pain had almost completely resolved! He was sleeping through the night, he was feeling more energised every day, and so he set his sights on some big training results - break 100kg for his deadlift, perform full chin-ups, and grow as much muscle mass & strength as he can to ensure issues like he had are no longer a concern, now and long into his future.
These goals seemed lofty - but he has now smashed those lifting goals easily with ease!

We are so impressed by the way Michael has been able to take his life back into his own hands, and we can't wait to see what else he is able to achieve!
