Combatting Osteopenia - Ann’s Success Story

As we age, we are at an increased risk of numerous chronic health conditions, including osteoporosis.

This is particularly true for women - the decline of oestrogen women experience during menopause can accelerate bone loss, which is why 1 in 3 women over the age of 50 are affected by osteoporosis.

Thankfully, today I come bearing good news!

Exercise has been proven to not only help manage existing cases of osteoporosis and osteopenia, but with early intervention it can prevent and even reverse the effects of these conditions!

We've seen it ourselves with many clients who come to us worried about the onset of bone density loss.

After receiving worrying results from a DEXA scan, Ann knew that she had to take control of her bone mineral density, and begin taking action to tackle her osteopenia - delaying would mean risking osteoporosis, and facing a dramatic increase in her risk of fractures and all-cause mortality.

Working alongside her coaching team, Ann worked on building back that critical bone density through progressive loading, and the introduction of weight-bearing impact exercises.

Fast forward to today, and Ann has seen an increase of 6.7% bone density in a recent re-assessment!

We couldn't be more proud to see the incredible outcome that Ann, and many others, have been able to achieve through strength training with us at Absolute.

As Ann says, “In anything to do with yourself, your physical self, you've got to be actively involved or nothing’s going to happen."

We couldn’t have said it better.
